(WSIL)-- This week's athlete of the week is Carterville volleyball's Bella Mavigliano. Bella helped lead the lions to 5 straight wins from Saturday's home tournament and Monday's match. In the tournament alone she had 52 kills, 41 assists and 31 digs in just 5 games. After the past year we've had Bella no longer takes the sport for granted.
"I feel like with Covid, I have really grown to appreciate the sport a lot more. Like most athletes I didn't know when I was going to able to get back on the court and be able to play and compete again. So that really grew my appreciation." said Mavigliano.
"We're trying to get her the ball as much as possible whether she's in back row setting or when she's in the front row hitting. She will hit from multiple different spots. And she's just that player that makes plays for us." said Nathan Emrick, Carterville Volleyball Head Coach.
Coach Emrick said Bella is their go to player for when they need a point. He mentioned she also has and incredible understanding of the game.
Every Thursday at 6:30 we'll continue to introduce you to a new Student Athlete of the Week.
