CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- In person graduation ceremonies returned to SIU's campus this weekend.

Almost 2,000 students earned their degrees Saturday. Ceremonies were held outside at Saluki Stadium. The outdoor ceremonies are in compliance with the Restore Illinois Plan. The School of Law and College of Agricultural Sciences had their ceremonies Friday. Saturday, The College of Liberal Arts, Applied Sciences, Engineering and others walked across the stage.

News 3 talked to a group of firefighters and police officers earned their Master's in Public Safety and they praised SIU for Saturday's ceremonies--and its programs.

"An absolutely outstanding program, anybody that's in the public sector; police, fire, military, I would advise them to take it, this has been a great experience for all of us and Go Dawgs. / Once a Saluki always a Saluki." said Mick Smith who received his Masters Degree in Public Safety and Homeland Security Administration.

Last year's in person ceremonies were canceled because of the pandemic. So the college held virtual ceremonies instead. But, they have invited 2020 graduates to walk in person on Sunday.
