SPRINGFIELD (ILLINOIS CAPITOL BUREAU) -- The Illinois Gaming Board held their first meeting in over four months to approve sports wagering licenses for seven casinos. However, there's final procedural work to check off the list before anyone places a bet.
Board members approved sportsbooks for casinos in Alton, Elgin, Aurora, Joliet, Des Plaines, East St. Louis, and East Peoria. Yet, those locations cannot open during Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois plan.
So how can people place bets if they can't go inside? Each casino needs to request board approval to allow betting online or on mobile apps.
There's no set timeline to make the requests, meaning casino owners may jump on the opportunity as soon as possible. Owners will need to prove they are complying with the emergency rules drafted by the board.
