WILLIAMSON COUNTY (WSIL) -- Saline River Farms, LLC has announced the planned construction of a meat processing facility in eastern Williamson County.
According to a press release, the company plans to build an 83,000 square foot USDA Beef and Pork processing facility at 9032 Route 166.
Saline River Farms is expected to invest $87 million into local agriculture over the next 12 months. Once the facility is completed, it will process more than 40 million pounds of beef and nearly 20 million pounds of pork per year once completed.
Williamson County was competing with a location in Kentucky for this project as part of the USDA's efforts to increase capacity and diversify processing facilities across the United State.
"We have received tremendous support from the cities of Marion, Herrin, and Creal Springs and have worked tirelessly with Congressman Mike Bost, State Senator Dale Fowler, Governor JB Pritzker's office, Williamson County Board Chairman Jim Marlo, and other elected officials to bring these career jobs to southern Illinois", said Ted Hampson, a spokesperson for Saline River Farms, LLC.
The processing facility will provide wholesale beef and pork processing services, consumer beef and pork processing services, direct to consumer mail order meat distribution, and will have an on-premises retail store. The company will distribute meat under several different labels.
