JACKSON CO (WSIL)---Jackson County Health reported 42 COVID cases in the entire month of June.

August had 1329 new cases for the month. The health department currently manages over 600 cases.

As of September 16th, Jackson County health reports 15 COVID deaths so far in September. That's an average of almost one death per day.

Region 5 currently on its third day with no ICU bed availability.

As COVID numbers rise and hospital staff continue to be overwhelmed, Bart Hagston from Jackson County Health said not being able to care for those who need critical care is cause for concern.

"Those services are just not as available to them and that should be the bell of concern for everybody that we need to take collective steps to reduce COVID transmission, to bring the crisis that we currently have into check, and to make sure that our hospitals are there to serve us in our time of need," said Hagston.

Because of the rising volume of cases and health departments having more to do to help curb COVID, the Jackson County Health department will no longer do walk ins for vaccinations.

You can make appointments for vaccinations on the Jackson County Health Department website.
