Offensive line sets tone for Du Quoin

DU QUOIN -- The new high school football season will bring new faces at head coach for several schools.

Du Quoin is one of those schools.

Derek Beard replaces AJ Hill, who left to pursue other opportunities after four seasons as the Indians' head coach.  Beard takes over a team that lost several standout weapons from last season's playoff team, but the Indians return quite a bit talent, including an experienced offensive line.

"We'll have a new quarterback and a couple of new guys in the backfield," Beard said.  "Our offensive line we think is gonna be pretty good.  It's the best part of our team right now.  We've got some backs that are unproven, we've got some good wide receivers back.  Overall, offensively, we feel pretty good about what we've got "

Senior speedster Dasani Edward agreed.

"Our line has been striving to get better, and they've been getting better every day," said Edward.  "And that helps us, that helps our quarterback, and that helps the backfield get better because without a line, you can't really do anything.  And our line's the best part of our team."

"It's my last year," said senior lineman Logan Robinson.  "Kinda nervous about that, but excited to play with these teammates and go through it.  Hopefully, we'll go as far as we can. "

Beard's varsity football head coaching debut will come next Friday night as the Indians will open at Massac County.
