MARION -- The Southern Illinois Miners missed out on a chance to sweep Florence and move into a first place tie in the Frontier League's West Division, as the Freedom took the series finale 4-2.
The Freedom tallied single runs in the first and third innings and added two more in the fifth for a 4-0 lead.
The Miners got a run in the seventh and another in the ninth. They did get the tying run to the plate, but Joe Duncan grounded out to short to end the game.
The Miners fall to 46-35, two games behind Florence. Evansville is a game back, River City a game and a half.
