Murphysboro slips by Herrin in extra innings

HERRIN-- The Murphysboro Red Devils picked up a River to River Ohio road win beating Herrin 8-7 in nine innings.

It was back and forth all afternoon.  The Red Devils trailed 6-5 in the fifth until Trenton Shepard delivered an RBI hit to tie the game.

This one went extra innings.  Murphysboro took a 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth inning thanks to Corbin Guthman's RBI hit to left.

Then it was the Tigers turn to rally.  Herrin tied it up in the bottom of the eighth inning on Jake Gibson run scoring rip down the third base line.

Murphysboro regained the lead in the ninth on a wild play.  With runners on first and second, Seth Daniels hit a bouncer to short.  Devin Eovaldi beat the throw as Herrin tried to get the force out at second.  Meanwhile, Kenny Peterein, who started on second, kept running and was called safe at that the plate on a controversial call.  

That turned out to be the winning run as the Red Devils hung on to win, improving to 5-3 in Ohio play.  Herrin falls to 3-5 in the conference.
