Woodlawn plows through the field to win inaugural Farmer Frenzy tournament

Posted: Updated:

ELKVILLE -- About the only thing that was able to stop the Woodlawn Lady Cardinals last week at the inaugural Farmer Frenzy girls basketball tournament was the weather.  The wintry conditions Saturday caused the trophy session of the tournament to be postponed and pushed back to this week.

The Lady Cardinals picked right back up where they left off last week, dominating Webber for the championship 61-23.

Woodlawn used a 14-2 run to close the first and seize control and lead 25-7 after one.  A 15-3 second quarter advantage for Woodlawn pushed the lead to 40-10 by halftime, and the Lady Cardinals would cruise to a 38-point win.  Their margin of victory for the four games in the tournament was 37 points.

Woodlawn's Bella Brumbaugh, Callie Lueking and Madison Tiemann was named to the all-tournament teams as was Webber's Emma Moser.

The tournament will wrap up Wednesday with Cobden facing Hardin County in the seventh place game at 4:30, followed by Elverado and Galatia/Thompsonville for third place.  Johnston City won fifth place when Shawnee forfeited.
