Former NASA engineer creates glitter bomb trap for package thieves

WSIL -- This is the time of year when thieves keep an eye on porches in hopes of intercepting an expensive Christmas gift. The problem of so-called "porch pirates" has become so prevalent that some police departments have not been able to help. That's what police told one man who decided to take matters into his own hands to dole out some justice of his own.

Mark Rober is a former NASA engineer, who worked on the Mars Curiosity rover. He decided to create an out-of-this-world bait package that would become a glitter stink bomb that would record the thieves' reactions, and be something that he could retrieve to use again.

In the YouTube video, some "victims" opened packages in their cars, with glitter being tossed into every nook and cranny. Others opened packages in their houses; one was even filmed trying to vacuum the mess up.
