Closures for National Day of Mourning

WSIL -- President Donald J. Trump has proclaimed Wednesday, December 5, 2018, as a National Day of Mourning in remembrance of former President George H.W. Bush.

As such, trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq will be suspended all day Wednesday. The last time U.S. markets closed outside of a holiday was in late October 2012 due to Hurricane Sandy. The last closure due to the death of a U.S. President was January 2, 2007, when the markets observed a national day of mourning for President Gerald R. Ford.

The U.S. Postal Service (U.S.P.S.) will suspend regular mail deliveries, and retail services on December 5. The U.S.P.S. will provide limited package delivery service on that day to ensure that they don't run behind during the busy holiday season.

Most federal employees will be excused from work on Wednesday, according to the Office of Personnel Management.
