Carbondale City Council candidate files objection

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A candidate for Carbondale City Council has filed an objection to another candidate's nominating packet, claiming people who do not live in the city signed his petition.

Jerrold Hennrich filed the objection against Greg Knoob claiming Knoob failed to gather the required number of qualifying signatures.

"There were certain signatures from people from Murphysboro and people from De Soto, people from Williamson County. I respect all of the members of the communities that surround Carbondale, but I don't believe that it's appropriate for them to say who is on our city council," said Hennrich.

Hennrich also claims Knoob didn't properly number his petition pages. The Carbondale City Clerk is working to validate all those signatures.

Monday was the last day candidates could file objections. News 3 reached out to Knoob for comment but were unable to reach him.
