Mustache Dash helps support cancer research

Posted: Updated:

MARION, Ill. -- Dozens of runners gathered at the Harry Crisp Sports Complex for the Mustache Dash 5K.

The race benefited the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life of Williamson, Franklin, Saline and Gallatin counties.

Organizers say the funds raised will go towards research, local services and education on cancer prevention.

Medals were awarded to the winners of the race and to the best fake and real mustaches.

"We just loved the idea of incorporating "No Shave November" into a 5K as well. So in the future, we hope to make it grow, make more people grow out their beards and raise awareness for mens' cancers in the area and we just hope it grows bigger and bigger every year," said Stephanie Smith, ACS Community Development Manager.

The race closes out the month of "No Shave November," where folks put away their razors in support of the many cancer patients who lose their hair during chemotherapy.
