Franklin County EMA assisting Central Illinois with tornado recovery efforts

Posted: Updated:

CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- Emergency Management officials in Central Illinois are investigating a dozen reports of tornadoes touching down.

According to the Chicago Tribune, those reports came from Christian, Cass, Fulton, McDonough and Schuyler counties. Taylorville in Christian County was one of the hardest hit communities. Saturday night, six people from the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency were called to Taylorville to assist with providing resources.

Ryan Buckingham, the Director of Emergency Management in Franklin County, says they've also been asked to bring their mobile command post.

"When we deploy that, it basically brings a full complement of capabilities. Internet service, phone service, the ability to monitor the weather, the ability to track resources and things like that, so that's the type of support that asset will provide," said Buckingham.

Christian County Emergency Management officials called the storm "devastating."

No fatalities have been reported, but officials say they've taken multiple calls of people trapped in their homes due to debris and downed power lines.
