IHSA schools to vote on districts for football

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- Some big change could potentially be coming to high school football in Illinois.

Eleven proposals made it out of the IHSA's legislative commission and will head for all schools to vote.  The one involving a complete revamping of the current football system is the one catching the most attention.

The proposal headed for a vote would move schools to districts, with classes determined before the season and then schools from each class placed into eight geographic groups by the IHSA.

The top four teams in each of the eight groups would qualify for the playoffs.

If approved the changes would start with the 2021 season.  Schools will have from December 3rd through the 17th to vote, with the results posted the 18th.

A simple majority is needed to pass a proposal.
