Jail battery under investigation

UPDATED: WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 28, 2018 4:30 p.m.

WSIL -- News 3 has learned the inmate injured at the jail on Saturday is Devin O'Daniell. Investigators arrested the Marion man on Friday for battering his child.

That 3-month old later died at a St. Louis hospital.

State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti tells News 3 his office hasn't received an official report about the jail battery.

Zanotti also says the investigation into the child's death is ongoing. 
 

ORIGINAL STORY

MARION, Ill. -- An inmate is back in the Williamson County jail after being battered by one or more inmates on Saturday.

Officials say the inmate was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries received and then returned to the jail.

The inmate's name is not being released.

The investigation into what happened is ongoing.

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indiana State Police also released a new sketch of the suspect, which State Police Superintendent Doug Carter said was produced thanks to "new information and intelligence" collected during the investigation into the killings of 14-year-old Liberty German and 13-year-old Abigail Williams.
