Benton food pantry needs donations

Posted: Updated:

BENTON, III. -- The Benton-West City Ministerial Alliance needs food donations for its pantry. Shelves inside the food pantry are almost bare.

Director Vicki Seagle, said they're in desperate need of more food to keep up with the demand.

"Two weeks ago we went completely empty and because of a small food drive we filled our shelves again but that won't last another week," said Seagle.

Families are allowed to get bags of food along with a voucher for milk, eggs and bread. With donations down, it's been a challenge to meet these needs.

"I can't imagine somebody coming in here and saying I'm sorry we have nothing to give you and that would be so tragic," said Seagle.

The pantry gets no government help, so they rely solely on donations. During the holidays, the pantry tries to give its families extra food. But, officials hope during this holiday season they'll get enough donations to stay open.

The Benton-West City Ministerial Alliance Pantry is accepting food and cash donations. You can contact them by calling (618) 927-6270.
