One dead after crash in Jackson County

DOWELL, Ill. --- The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says one person is dead after a crash north of Dowell.

It happened around 2:12 a. m. early Friday morning on West Road where investigators say a vehicle was travelling south on West Road when it exited the roadway and struck a guardrail.

Illinois State Police and Du Quoin Police responded to the call and arrived to a vehicle covered in flames, with a person trapped inside.

The Jackson County coroner pronounced the victim dead at the scene and the person's identity is being withheld while investigators try and contact family members and determine the cause to the crash.
