Illinois Supreme Court denies request to hear complaint in Bethune murder case

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Judges on the Illinois Supreme Court will not hear a complaint against the judge in the Gaege Bethune murder trial.

Judge Mark Clarke tossed out the guilty verdict against Bethune in September because of an issue with the wording of the indictment.

Special Prosecutor David Robinson filed a complaint directly to the state Supreme Court last month, challenging the judge's ruling.

He said his office is taking the next few days to figure out its next steps.

Bethune is accused of killing Pravin Varughese in February 2014.

Judge Ralph Bloodworth took over all future proceedings in the case due to Judge Clarke's retirement this month.

No future court dates have been set.
