Kelly thanks campaign volunteers ahead of election day

Posted: Updated:

CARTERVILLE, Ill. -- Brendan Kelly thanked his campaign volunteers on the last day before the election and urged them to power through until the polls close.

"Things are feeling good. Things are definitely moving the right way. You can definitely feel the enthusiasm," Kelly told the crowd of volunteers Monday.

Kelly stopped at his Carterville office to meet with his team on the final day of campaigning.

Kelly is the Democrat running for Congress in Illinois' 12th district, one of the most-watched Congressional races, and he says he's encouraged by the amount of early voting and overall enthusiasm heading into Tuesday.

"They know that I'm going to fight against the corruption in D.C.; that I'm going to fight to protect pre-existing conditions for people who have serious health care concerns; try to bring down the cost of health care and the cost of prescriptions," Kelly said. "Try to rebuild southern Illinois, all the terrible infrastructure that we have that's crumbling."

"People know where we stand," Kelly continued. "They know where I stand. I'm going to fight hard for the people of southern Illinois and that's why I feel good about (the election)."

Kelly started his morning campaigning with Democratic gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker in Belleville and also worked with campaign workers at his phone bank in Carbondale.

He faces incumbent U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Ill.) and Green Party candidate Randy Auxier.
