Marion church donates to a museum

Posted: Updated:

MARION, Ill. -- The Williamson County Historical Society received a $5,000 check Wednesday from the Warder Street Baptist Church plus three chairs, a pulpit, and a communion table with a few church items. The check is to help with the upkeep of the donations.

The Warder Street Baptist Church was built in 1921. Church officials told News 3 a lack of members forced them to close. Officials with the Williamson County Historical Society said they did not to want lose any of the church's history, so they accepted the donations.

"That represents about a hundred years or a hundred plus years of people's worship to appear here locally and it's something we want to preserve," said Samuel Lattuca.

The church also donated records of anyone who had signed into the Warder Street Baptist Church for service. The Williamson County Historical Society Museum and Genealogy library hope to have all of the items on display sometime in November.
