President Donald Trump campaigns for Rep. Mike Bost

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- In what's expected to be a major boost to his campaign President Donald Trump rallied in Murphysboro for Congressman Mike Bost, telling the thousands in attendance to make sure there's no blue wave, and instead a red tsunami.

"Mike Fights every day for the Hard working people of Illinois," Trump said, before introducing Bost.

Trump called on the thousands in attendance to get out and vote in what is one of the most closely watched races congressional races in the nation.

"A vote for Mike is really a continuation to make America great again, very simple," he said.

Before the rally, Bost said he's hoping the visit from Trump helps put his race out of reach for Democrat Brendan Kelly.

"Our polls are very good right now, but the poll that matters is the one a week from Tuesday," Bost said. "We need to make sure our voters get out. This helps motivate our base and stir them up and get them out."

The President attacked Kelly, the St. Clair County State's attorney, saying he is beholden to Democratic Party Leadership.

"Mike's opponent Brendan Kelly is a vote for Nancy Pelosi and of course Maxine Waters, and their job killing agenda."

Bost's Democratic opponent Brendan Kelly will bring in his own big name next week when former President Joe Biden comes to campaign for him in East St. Louis.
