Southern Illinois teachers honored with "Those Who Excel" awards

WSIL -- A group of teachers in our area are being honored for their contributions to their schools and communities.

The Illinois State Board of Education announced 214 teachers across the state will receive the "Those Whose Excel" award.

The following teachers in southern Illinois will receive the awards:

Natalie Walker: Student Support Personnel Excellence (Giant City Community Consolidated School Dist. 130, Jackson)
Pamela Burns: Early Career Educator Excellence (Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80, Jefferson)
Stacy Hayes: Classroom Teacher Merit (Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80, Jefferson)
Amy Horner: Community Volunteer Excellence (Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80, Jefferson)

Pamela Pursell: Classroom Teacher Merit (Du Quoin Community Unit School District 300, Perry)
Stephanie Lerch: Classroom Teacher Excellence (Red Bud CUSD 132, Randolph)

The state board will also name the 2019 Illinois Teacher of the Year at the annual educators banquet this Saturday.
