Burns won't have new mental health evaluation

SALINE COUNTY, Ill. -- The former doctor charged with killing his wife will not undergo a new mental health evaluation.

Online court records show Brian Burns' attorney, Duane Verity, withdrew his request for the evaluation Tuesday.

According to The Southern Illinoisan, Verity refused to call witnesses or turn over evidence as to why Burns' needed the evaluation.    

Burns is accused of killing his estranged wife, Carla, and burning her body.

He's not due back in court until January 2019.
