Man identified in fatal Jackson County crash

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. -- The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has identified the man killed in this morning's crash as 67-year-old Gerald Mifflin.

Authorities say around 11:37 a.m., Mifflin was driving eastbound on Lover's Lane in a Dodge Dakota pickup truck, when he approached the Union Pacific railroad crossing. Mifflin failed to stop at the crossing and crashed into the side of a train.

Mifflin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the tanker train was not compromised and there was no leak.

Grimsby Road and Lover's Lane were closed for around 5 and a half hours while crews cleared the scene.

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. -- The Jackson County Sheriff's Office confirms to News 3 one person was killed in the crash. 

That person's name is not being released.

No other details about what happened are being released right now.

ORIGINAL STORY

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. -- A truck has become wedged under train tanker car in Jackson County.

It happened at the crossing of Lover's Lane late this morning.

The Gorham Fire Department tells News 3 the tanker contained Vinyl Chloride Stabilizer.

They're establishing a one and a half mile radius around the crash site as a precaution.

It is unclear how many people were in the truck or if anybody got hurt.
