CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Taylorville VFW Riders donated more than $50,000 to This Able Veteran Saturday.

This Able Veteran's goal is to save lives and provide healing through PTSD service dogs. The money will go towards raising and training a service dog and bringing their veterans to the This Able Veteran's campus for three weeks, offsetting all expenses for that veteran including housing, food, travel and training equipment.

Darrell Devord, the president of Taylorville VFW Riders said, "It's so dear to us because we can possibly get more of these service dogs and more of the veterans."

Taylorville VFW Riders donation will cover the cost for two service dogs. Taylorville VFW Riders have raised more than $100,000 and plan to continue to donate more money to the non-profit.

More than 600,000 veterans suffer from traumatic stress and 20 American veterans take their own lives each day. This Able Veteran provides their services at no cost to the veterans and the organization relies entirely on donations.

This Able Veteran was founded in 2011 and has served more than 40 veterans to date.
