BBQ lovers unite at Praise The Lard Cook-Off

MURPHYSBORO -- More than 85 teams from around the nation to compete at 31st Annual Praise The Lard Cook-Off.

Co-owner of 17th Street BBQ Amy Mills joined the News 3 This Morning crew to talk about this year's competition.

The three-day event kicks off Thursday, September 20 with The Fish and Wings contests, a fish fry, and live music.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Mills will team up with the Steak Cook-off Association to host SCA Steak Cook-off Friday, September 21.  It's open to competition teams as well as anyone in the surrounding area who can provide their own heat source (gas, charcoal or wood grill.) The entries are judged blindly by a panel of judges with the Grand Champion winning entry to the SCA World Championship.

New this year will be a Cabo Wabo Tequila Contest on Friday afternoon. It will be run by KCBS and judged by local dignitaries in two categories "Cabo Rita" Margarita and a Cabo-infused grilled dish.

Friday is also the start of the two-day Grand Champion competition and kicks off with the Murphysboro High School’s Crimson Express Marching Band’s annual parade through the center of the competition grounds. Friday night, Corey Evitts and the Hollerboys will play a live performance following the Grand Champion Buffet. 

The Kid’s Cue is Saturday, September 22 and is open to teams between the ages of 7-12. Competitors will be provided with one pound of pork, charcoal, and a mini-grill. Their entries will be judged on appearance, tenderness/texture, and taste.
