Portrait of President Lincoln to be in all Illinois County Courthouses

Posted: Updated:

MARION, Ill. -- The Williamson County Courthouse received a donation Tuesday which will soon hang on its walls-- a portrait of President Abraham Lincoln.

The Illinois Judges Association and the Illinois State Bar Association are donating portraits of Abraham Lincoln to all 102 county courthouses in the state of Illinois.

The original photograph, taken during Lincoln's presidential campaign, dates back to June 3, 1860. Courthouse personnel say they're excited for the distinctive image.

Judge Carey Gill said, "It's a very unusual portrait in that it's a picture of Abraham Lincoln without his beard. He said it was one of his favorite photographs of himself. So, this portrait is very special and unique in that way."

The canvas print is 30 inches wide by 40 inches tall, and will be a permanent addition to the Williamson County Courthouse.
