Three in custody after 91 dogs rescued from their home

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- A mother and her two adult sons face tentative charges of cruelty to animals after 91 dogs were rescued from deplorable conditions in their home.

Franklin County Animal Control and Franklin County Deputies served a search warrant at the residence in rural Macedonia. They took 54-year-old Trudie Casler, 32-year old Matthew Casler, and 30-year-old Sean Casler into custody. All three are being held on the tentative charges of cruelty to animals.

Rescuers say some of the dogs were blind because they had been kept in the dark their entire lives. One dog was missing a foot, and all 91 dogs were covered in fleas, most to the point that blood ran off the dogs from the flea bites as they were bathed. They are all currently being cared for by rescuers.

Further charges are anticipated pending review of the evidence and reports by the Franklin County State's Attorney's Office. Click here to read the original story.
