Thousands celebrate the 81st annual Cobden Peach Festival

COBDEN, Ill. -- A busy weekend in Cobden filled with plenty of candy for the kids.

And of course, peaches.

Thousands came out to celebrate the 81st annual Peach Festival Saturday an event marking the peach harvest.

It's the first Peach Festival for Liz Robinson and her family.

She lives in Marion but grew up in the Chicago suburbs.

"And small town festivals are a great thing to do," Robinson said. "I like a lot that this one is in the evening because in the summer it's miserable here during the daytime."

Greg Wilson grew up in Cobden and says summer heat is always an issue, but he loves going to the Peach Festival every year.

"I have a lot of fond memories," Wilson said. "It's a small town. It has a 'everybody knows one another' kind of feel."

He said there's been some small changes over the years, but it's still the Peach Festival.

Plenty of carnival rides for kids politicians shaking hands, trying to get votes.

There's also the Peach Queen pageant.

One thing appeals to everyone though, regardless of how many times you've been to the Cobden Peach Festival.

"Gotta get some cobbler," Robinson said.

"There's good peach cobbler," Wilson said. "You can pick it up at Flamm's. It's a great town."
