Herrin man arrested in drug bust

Posted: Updated:

HERRIN, Ill. -- Before the sun rose Thursday, officers with the Southern Illinois Enforcement Group arrested Bobby Joe Tolbert, 50, at his home in the 300 block of 17th Street in Herrin.

Williamson County Deputies and Herrin Police also helped.

They believe Tolbert sold meth out of the home, although investigators didn't say just how much meth they found.

A neighbor told News 3 the home is known for drug activity.

Tolbert is no stranger to police.

Just a few months ago in May, Herrin officers arrested him for going after his estranged wife and her new boyfriend.

Court documents accuse him and Kristy McIntosh of attacking the boyfriend. McIntosh is accused of spraying him with mace.

Tolbert's name appear in dozens of charges in Williamson County alone, one dating back all the way to 1985.

Back then, Tolbert pleaded guilty to a sexual assault charge and served two years of probation.

Since then, prosecutors have charged Tolbert on multiple occasions, convicting him of a drug charge in 2004, resisting a police officer in 2011 related to a domestic battery and the assault earlier this year.

Tolbert and McIntosh will be in court for a hearing in that case on Aug. 13.

No court dates have been set in Tolbert's drug case and prosecutors have until Friday to officially charge him.
