Award-winning Egyptian artist is visiting 'Little Egypt'

MARION, Ill.-- Mandala Gardens is hosting internationally known Egyptian visiting artist, Safaa Abd El Salam, who specializes in mosaics and fresco painting.

Salam has designed and created a mosaic for Mandala Gardens that will permanently be on display after nearly two years of working on it. 

She's the chair of the department of painting, professor of mural painting and conservation, and faculty of fine arts at the University of Alexandria, Egypt.

Her work has been exhibited around the world including Egypt, England, Vietnam, and the United States.

The public can witness the art installation in process during the day Wednesday through Friday.

Hands on experience will be offered with Salam through a mosaic workshop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m on Saturday. Participants will create and design their own mosaic to take home.There will be a $35.00 fee that will cover materials. Following the workshop will be the presentation of Salam's mosaic.

Salam will also present a slideshow of her collection of artworks at Carbondale Artspace 304 on July 24 at 7 p.m.
