School, former trainer sued over alleged sex crimes

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- The Massac County Unit 1 school district is now facing a federal lawsuit.

The mother of a student who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a former trainer who the school contracted filed the suit Monday in the Benton Federal Court.

Court documents show the suit lists the district and Felicia Williams-Watson as defendants. No court dates have been set at this time.

The documents allege the student has "suffered and will continue to suffer extreme emotional distress as a result of being the victim of sexual predation at the hands of the defendant, Felicia Watson."

A second count in the documents alleges the school district is guilty of "willful and wanton misconduct" for not investigating Williams-Watson's background and not properly monitoring her conduct.

The plaintiff is seeking $2 million in damages.

Back in May, Massac County State's Attorney Patrick Windhorst filed six charges against Williams-Watson: four counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

A pre-trial in that case is set for August 14.
