Two crashes cause slowdown on I-57

Posted: Updated:

UNION COUNTY, Ill -- Illinois State Police report two different crashes on I-57 near the mile marker 25 within about thirty minutes of each other.

The first crash was a single vehicle crash, in which a tractor trailer went off the road, and came to rest in the median. That driver, Sayf Shamoon, 25, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The second crash happened when an Union county deputy was responding to the first crash. The deputy’s vehicle was parked on the left side of the southbound lanes when a semi-truck driver traveling south struck the deputy's vehicle.

The driver of the semi, John Henley, 56, of Oliver Springs, Tennessee was ticketed for failure to yield to an authorized emergency vehicle.
