HARRISBURG, Ill. -- It was an exciting weekend at the Saline County Fairgrounds as hundreds of athletes came together for the 4th annual "Battle in the Burg."

More than 250 athletes came out to participate in the "Battle in the Burg," hosted by Kristin and Lauryn King, the couple who owns CrossFit Little Egypt.

“You have people that are members, you have people that are non-members, you have kids, you have family members that are here watching someone that they care about, give it their all in there,” Kristen said.

Organizers said five states were represented with more than 85 teams present.

"There may be some hard workouts and people are out there sweating but every person is around cheering until that last person is done," Kristin said.

Jason Sutfin drove three hours from Robinson to join the fun.

"It's contagious, you start doing it and you just want to get better and better and faster and faster and I feel better than I've ever felt in my life so it's great," Sutfin said.

He got involved in his late thirties and shared one of the biggest reasons for that.

"Actually the reason I started doing it was because I got three daughters and I wanted to be able to throw them real high in the pool," Sutfin said.

Organizers said the sport brings communities together regardless of age and encourages a healthy lifestyle.

"It's great just to kind of cultivate those friendships and work out hard," Lauryn said.

Kristin added, "They are working incredibly hard for themselves, so to see everyone rallying around people help better themselves and their health, it's just an incredibly rewarding experience."
