Marion Kroger shelving collapses in baby aisle

Posted: Updated:

MARION, Ill. -- A row of shelving collapsed at the Marion Kroger.

No shoppers were hurt but the shelves collapsed on two construction workers Thursday who were renovating in that baby aisle, leaving minor injuries.

One shopper told News 3 he was in that aisle just minutes before the collapse, and said he's thankful it wasn't worse. He wouldn't go on camera because he was so shaken up.

Another shopper said accidents happen and is glad no one got seriously hurt.

"It could have certainly been very tragic but it didn't and we have to put a little faith in God for that happening, that everyone was safe even though it was a minor catastrophe," she said.

Kroger employees said construction crews have been on site for months renovating the store, calling this a "freak accident."

The collapse is still under investigation.
