DU QUOIN, Ill. -- The Du Quoin Chamber of Commerce hosted its 2nd annual "Farm to Table Dinner" Thursday.

Dozens of people turned out for the event where there was everything from live music to farm fresh produce. Folks stacked their plates with dishes including beer braised beef brisket and peach cobbler, all locally sourced and prepared by local restaurants.

Tim Hirsch, who's a member of the Du Quoin Chamber of Commerce, was one of many who came out to bring the event to life.

"We like to bring everybody down here to Du Quoin and put it on Main Street to kind of show off our town as well because we feel like we have a nice beautiful downtown," Hirsch said. "The farm to table movement has happened because people are wanting to be more aware of where their food is coming from and becoming more health-conscious and want to make sure that the food they're eating is fresh."

Samantha Daniels, who also serves on the Chamber of Commerce Farm to Table Committee, said it's all about bringing folks together and supporting their neighbors while getting a good product in return.

"It really brings the whole community together," Daniels said. "It really promotes farmers, and local growers, and I mean all around, healthy eating, local restaurants, I mean everything."

The Perry County Farm Bureau and Marshall Browning Hospital among many others supported the event.

Organizers told News 3 they sold 160 tickets within less than an hour of them going on sale. They're already looking forward to next year.
