FDA: Recalled Honey Smacks still being sold

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- The U.S. Food & Drug Administration is reminding consumers about an active recall of Honey Smacks cereal because some of the recalled cereal is still being sold in stores.

The FDA today says the cereal is still being sold at retail outlets, despite the fact that Kellogg recalled an estimated 1.3 million cases of the cereal from more than 30 states in June due to the potential for Salmonella contamination.

The FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating the outbreak, which has been linked to 100 cases with 30 hospitalizations across 33 states. There have been no deaths.  The Illinois Department of Public Health confirmed at least one case in Illinois.

The recalled products had use by dates of June 14, 2018 through June 14, 2019 and involved the cereals' 15.3 ounce and 23 ounce packages.
