Road closure planned in Anna - WSIL-TV 3 Southern Illinois

Road closure planned in Anna

Posted: Updated:

UNION, CO., Ill. -- Drivers in Union County should expect a road closure in late July.

IDOT will shut down the 146 intersection of West Vienna and Main Street in Anna for a construction project. The closure will take place from July 23 to July 30.

IDOT Supervising Field Engineer Ben Will handles construction project across District 9, which is made up of 17 counties in the southern portion of Illinois. He explained how they'll replace an old pavement at the intersection.

"We're going to be replacing it with a 10-inch concrete pavement, that's going to last 25-30 years and should be virtually maintenance free most of that time," Will said.

He said about 14-thousand vehicles cross over the intersection every single day, including one-thousand semi-trucks.

"The best way to stage this was to go ahead and do a detour route and close the road," Will said. "The detour route is going to be a local route through town."

Will said said drivers can take Green Street to Davie Street or Market Street to Davie Street.

Businesses around the area will stay open during that time. The project is weather-permitting so there's a potential of pushing it back if heavy rain or storms come in during that time, Will said.

"Given the overall scope of the project, it just made more sense for the safety of the public to go ahead and close the intersection," Will said.
