Southern Illinois man helps Thailand cave rescue

Posted: Updated:

THAILAND -- An Illinois man helps out the rescue efforts in Thailand.

Thanet Natisiri co-owns Thai D in Marion with his wife.

He also does charity work in his home country, helping people in rural Thailand with their water.

The Thai military needed his expertise to help remove water from the cave where several children went missing.

His wife, Yada Natisiri, said he's gone back-and-forth between the two countries for about two years now.

"Some areas that if you see all the ground, it's all dried up, you see the cracks in the soil," Natisiri said. "You can't grow anything, you can't use anything. When you turn on the faucet, all that comes out is just dirt."

Natisiri also works as an interpreter between the English-speaking and Thai-speaking crews.
