Hardin County archery team prepares for national championship

HARRISBURG, Ill. -- After being crowned champion as a freshman at the S3DA 3-D National Championship last year, Adriana Armstrong will try to repeat the feat this year.

"There's definitely a lot of pressure it feels like, but I've been practicing a lot with my team, and my parents and coaches have been getting me ready. So I feel like I am prepared, but I'm still a little but nervous and its a lot of pressure, but I feel like that's good for me, and it will push me to do my best," said Armstrong, who will be a junior at Hardin County High School in the fall.

Armstrong will have a bit of momentum behind her, as she and her Hardin County high school teammates are coming off their second straight state championship.

"It's just such a thrill. I mean, we're a small school, and we don't offer a lot of sports. So when we can take our archery team, and actually win a state championship, its a huge thrill," said Susan Armstrong, Adriana's mother and coach of the Hardin County Archery Team.

After missing the podium at nationals by just 15 points last year with a fourth place finish, the Cougars hope for an even better result this weekend.

"The goal is first place, but we'd really like to get first, second, or third. We'd be really happy with any of those, and coming in fourth, we're definitely expecting a little bit more this year, hoping that we just keep moving forward every year," said Adriana Armstrong.

The S3DA 3-D National Championship runs through Sunday at the Mermet Lake State Conservation Area.
