JACKSON COUNTY, Ill.-  Even though school let out for the summer kids are continuing their learning by attending Southern Illinois University Carbondale Camp. The camp  gives kids ages 6  to 18 the chance to learn survival skills: building shelters, using a map and compass, and zipling.

SIU Summer Camp Leaders say kids and young adults were able to be a part of different groups.

  • X-Treme Kids Day Camp Session 1, an eco camp, set for June 18-22 at Touch of Nature Environmental Center.
  • Summer Wings Aviation Camp, providing high school youths the chance to really experience flight June 24-29.
  • Lego Mindstorms Camp Session 13, set for June 25-29, giving children the chance to create customizable, programmable robots using LEGO software, hardware and parts.
  • Mindfulness Camp, a camp to improve awareness and learning for kids ages 6-12, set for July 9-13.

The Touch of Nature’s River Runners Overnight Camp, scheduled for July 16-20, has been canceled.

For more details and registration for the camps hosted at Touch of Nature Environmental Center, located about eight miles south of Carbondale on Giant City Road, click here or call (618) 453-1121.
