Shawnee Community College host safety training for employees

ULLIN, Ill.--Shawnee Community College partnered with Illinois State Police recently to bring safety training to their employees.

The campus training provided employees with plans on how to proactively handle threats from intruders or active shooters. 

ISP safety education officer trooper, Greg Miller, instructed the training options for potentially life-threatening events on college campuses and other public facilities.

Many employees as well as some members of the Shawnee Community College Board of Trustees attended but the seminar was recorded for those who were unable to attend.

College president Peggy Bradford said safety is a priority on campus for the students, faculty and staff. 

"This training gives us additional tools that helps us to ensure we are providing the highest level of safety to protect those individuals who travel around the campus daily," Bradford said.

"We are thankful to the Illinois State Police for partnering with us to provide this informative training seminar.”

    WSIL -- The first disaster relief volunteers with the Illinois Baptist State Association (IBSA) are on their way to Lumberton, North Carolina. The Illinois crews come from a trained pool of about 1,700 volunteers and are a part of the larger Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, which is the country's largest aid organization next to the Red Cross and Salvation Army.
