VIENNA, Ill. -- The Vienna Goreville Football team will have a powerful weapon on their defensive line this year, by the name of Hunter Veach.

It didn't take long for Hunter Veach to make a name for himself in the sport of powerlifting. After being crowned state and national champion, the 16 year old made his first ever appearance competing on the international stage.

"My other USA Team lifters, they really helped just kind of keep me calm, not get anxious, and ready to go and miss lifts and everything else," said Veach.

Veach kept his composure, absolutely dominating the competition, taking gold in squats, squatting 529lbs. Veach didn't stop there, he also took gold in bench press, pressing 352lbs, and silver in Deadlift.

That performance helped Veach earn the overall gold  in his first ever World Championships.

"It was great, I really had no words for it, I still don't. It was just an awesome experience," said Veach.

Veach's next competiton will be Nationals in October, but until then, he's focusing on the upcoming football season.

"Just knowing that I'm the strongest one out on the football field, just gives the assurance that no ones going to beat me," said Veach.
