Slammers sweep Miners - WSIL-TV 3 Southern Illinois

Slammers sweep Miners

Posted: Updated:

MARION -- The third game between the Southern Illinois Miners and the Joliet Slammers didn't start the same as the first two, but it ended the same way--with a Joliet win.

The Slammers completed a three-game sweep at Rent One Park with a 10-5 win.

Southern Illinois jumped on top with two runs in the third.  It was the Miners' first lead of the series.

It did not last.

Joliet answered with six runs in the fifth for a 6-2 lead.  The Miners got one back in the bottom of the fifth and scored two more in the sixth to cut it to 6-5, but the Slammers tacked on two in the seventh and two more in the ninth for the final margin of victory.

The Miners fall to 16-12 on the season, but they remain a half game back of first place River City, who also lost.

Washington comes to town this weekend.  The Wild Things lead the Eastern division and own the top record in the Frontier League at 20-10.
