Gov. Rauner stops by Marion after signing state budget

Posted: Updated:

MARION, Ill. -- Governor Bruce Rauner was in Marion to speak with state workers about the $38.5 billion budget he recently signed. It's the first state spending plan he's signed since taking office in 2015.

The budget includes back-pay for state employees: $8.3 billion for K-12 education, $2.5 billion for the Department of Transportation, and $1.8 billion for higher education.

Lawmakers here in Southern Illinois say the budget will help improve many cities and Cairo will receive $1 million dollars to start working on a river port in Cairo.
