Sunset Concerts kick off this week

WSIL -- The annual Sunset Concert Series returns to the steps of Shryock Auditorium in Carbondale this Thursday, June 14.

The free weekly concerts take place at different venues in Carbondale through July 26. This year for the first time, a third location has been added to the usual Turley Park and Shryock Auditorium: at the intersection of Rte. 13 and Washington St.

You are allowed to bring your own beverages to the outdoor series, but only in single serve non-glass containers. And although it is outdoors, there are no pets or no smoking allowed.

The concert series is co-sponsored by the Carbondale Park District, the City of Carbondale, SIU Carbondale's Student Programming Council and the SIU Student Center. For more info, click here.

Down North - A soul/punk band from Seattle, WA

Thursday, June 21 - Turley Park
The Tillers - A Cincinnati folk/bluegrass band with a touch of punk and jazz

Thursday, June 28 - SIU Shryock
Donavan Keith - Soul/pop music and higher energy dance from Texas with Midwestern roots

Thursday, July 05 - Turley Park
Dos Santos - Chicago band playing an eclectic mix of traditional Mexican folk punk, psychedelic cumbia, salsa, and electronica

Thursday, July 12 - Corner of Washington St. & Rt. 13
Jungle Dogs - A regional world beat band featuring rock reggae, calypso, ska and funk tunes

Thursday, July 19 - Corner of Washington St. & Rt. 13
Sheryl Youngblood - Funk/blues from Chicago/Joliet area

Thursday, July 26 - SIU Shryock
The Band Be Easy - Reggae from Jacksonville Florida

    HARRISBURG--  The Defense Department, Delta Leadership Authority and the Egyptian Health Department are teaming up for free screenings for people of all ages in our region. Officials say you do not have to be an area resident to receive treatment; anyone who attends will receive care on a first-come, first -served basis.  Patients will receive; free medical, dental, and a wide range of optometry services and you can even be provided a free eye glasses.
