Carbondale Police officer placed on administrative leave

CARBONDALE, Ill. - A Carbondale Police officer is on administrative leave with pay while being investigated for a social media post.

The post in question is attempting to sell coffee mugs featuring a picture of an incapacitated citizen was made by a person who says on his linked in page that he has been a patrol officer with the department since September 2014.

The City of Carbondale Police Department released a statement late this afternoon claiming they became aware of the post today and are investigating the matter.

CPD says they take these matters seriously and claim if found to be valid, may lead to disciplinary measures in accordance with the City and Department Policies and Procedures.

An officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.

News 3 has obtained screenshots of comments on the post featuring other Carbondale Police Department employees and will continue investigating this story. We have reached out to Sgt. Amber Ronketto and have not heard back.
