Sam's IGA in Vienna closed for good

Posted: Updated:

VIENNA, Ill. - People in Vienna are in shock after finding out Sam's IGA has closed its doors for good. It's the only store in Vienna that sells meat.

Vienna's Mayor, John Simmons, says he's surprised  the owner didn't give him a warning for the closure. Mayor Simmons says he's noticed the store was lacking in certain produce; but didn't think it would lead to an overnight closure.

"It's just awful for our city and our citizens that walk in here and can't get out of town," said Mayor Simmons.

We reached out to the owner of Sam's IGA in Vienna; but they have yet to respond.

The Shawnee Mass Transit District is offering $3.00 rides to people in the area to the Walmart in Marion every Thursday.

You can call (866) 577-6278 to make a reservation.
