UPDATE 7:07 a.m.:

A boil order is in effect for some residents near a water main break in Carbondale.

An automated message left on The South Highway Water District's answering machine says residents west of Illinois Route 51 all the way to Union Hill Road will be affected.

McDonald's and the Huck's gas station on Route 51 and Pleasant Hill Road are also affected as well as The Reserves at Saluki Pointe.

UPDATE 8:11 p.m.:

Carbondale Mayor Mike Henry tells us that the water main that broke is one of two that serves the South Highway Water district.

This district serves the community south of Carbondale.

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Crews are just getting to the scene of a water main break in Carbondale.

Mayor Mike Henry tells us one of two water mains busted near Pleasant Hill Road and Rte. 51.

He says that since there are two water main lines in Carbondale, this should not cause any severe problems for users. 

The mayor says customers may experience water pressure drops.

    JACKSON COUNTY--  Even though school let out for the summer kids are continuing their learning by attending Southern Illinois University Carbondale Camp. The camp  gives kids ages 6  to 18--the chance to learn survival skills: building shelters,  using a map and compass , --- and zipling.  SIU Summer Camp Leaders say-- kids and young adults were able to be a part of different groups.
